Crack the Interview - Easy to Follow Tips

Cleared written exams? The next phase in selection process would be Interview .We receive many requests from our readers asking for tips on how to prepare effectively for Job Interview. The Interview is one of the important part in recruitment, since its where the employer tests your personality, communication & problem solving skills.

1. Research. Visit the company`s website & read about their history, products, achievements, services, management etc.,You are sure to impress the HR if you know about their company and their working.

2. Start early. Reach the Interview spot in advance.Avoid rushing in the last minute, since it can create unwanted tension.

3. Dress Sensibly. Most organizations have a formal dress code,so stick with it.Light colored plain or checked shirts with dark pants for gents & Saree or Shirt/Pant for ladies would be a perfect costume.Keep it simple but professional

4. Be Calm. Look relaxed and stay cool while inside the interview hall. Nervousness decreases your confidence level & can make you stumble .Sit comfortably in an erect position, with hands on your lap. Avoid leaning on table or folding arms.

5. Greet the Interviewer. Most candidates forget to greet the person interviewing him/her while entering in excitement.Be polite in thanking when offered a seat to sit.

6. Use proper words. No need to show off your English knowledge by using unheard or difficult to understand words.Try using simple words and always answer questions looking into the other person`s eyes.

7. Salary details. Don't start a discussion on salary until asked for.It leaves a bad impression in the person`s mind about you.The Interviewer will definitely ask your preference,so wait till then.

8. Say Thankyou. Never forget to say thank you to the panel.Often, candidates are in a hurry to get out.Once the interview is over, thank the person, standup patiently & walk towards the door to leave. All these are noted in an interview.

How you behave inside an interview hall can speak volumes about your character. We hope these above tips would help in attending Interview boldly.

SBI PO Jobs Written Test – No more Maths Papers

Candidates interested in applying for jobs in State bank of India have a reason to smile as the bank had recently made changes to their exam pattern. SBI has scrapped the mathematical/ quantitative papers for its Probationary Officers recruitment announced last month leaving more room to test candidates on logical reasoning & data analysis skills.

The Test : As per recruitment notice for officer jobs in State bank of India & their associate banks, here is the exam pattern -

1) Test of English Language
2) Test of General Awareness, Marketing & Computers
3) Test of Data Analysis & Interpretation
4) Test of Reasoning (High Level)

Test of Reasoning : The recent SBI recruitment for 4500 Probationary officers saw the inclusion of Test of Reasoning paper in place of Quantitative aptitude/ Numerical ability, which is a standard part of many competitive exams in India, including bank exams. This could be due to the change in the test pattern made by SBI, says an article published in Business line.

Decision Making : Now, with this change the bank looks to extract & test the reasoning and decision making skills. This seems to be a welcome move by SBI as bank officers will have to choose & decide between various available options for which their analysis, logical reasoning & decision making skills are taken into account in written exams.

No Maths.Easy? Although, the removal of maths papers from SBI officer recruitment exams would enable more eligible candidates with no exceptional maths knowledge to apply, it is also mentioned - Test of Reasoning would be of high level !

Hence, bank job aspirants will now have to prepare extensively for the reasoning & data analysis tests, as the competition for bank jobs is increasing & SBI remains the first choice for many.

Negative Marks - Tips to Minimise

Every candidate taking up bank exams for the first time are more concerned about Negative marks.Negative marks in bank exams are awarded to each and every wrong answer ,which ranges from 0.25 - 0.50 marks. If you still have no clue on how to steer clear without negative marks, proceed reading to know about the do`s & don'ts.

What you must do to minimize negative marks ?

# Analyze the Question paper in advance by referring previous question papers. This helps to get a clear picture of the type of questions in each section. For this, previous question papers or question paper blueprints would help in knowing the pattern

# Practice is the only key.Since most bank exams expect you to complete 120-150 questions in 3 hours, its necessary for the candidates to figure out short-cut methods, easy problem solving skills so that precious time could be saved.

# Try attending mock tests using sample bank exam question papers, which will help to decide on the amount of time needed to answer each question.Time Management is the most needed skill to answer all the questions in time.

# Prepare short notes of your preparations, formulas, important theorems etc.,so you can refer to it during the last minute preparation rather than reading the books.

# Be cool & calm while writing the exam.Getting tensed on an unknown question or hurrying to complete the exam soon, contribute to negative marks largely.

# Answer the questions that you are confident of being correct ,rather than getting stuck with a question & wasting time trying to answer it.

# Do not guess until you are very sure of the answer.Guessing can drastically reduce the marks without your knowing.

# Do not erase or overwrite frequently.Since the OMR sheets are read by computers, any improper erasing marks will be calculated as wrong answers, leading to negative marks.

In an attempt to avoid negative marks, don't skip all the unknown questions.Take calculated risks & think of the nearest answer, since there is no success without risks

Descriptive English Test – Tips to Prepare & Books

Descriptive English is an important paper in the Written test for Bank exams. While writing in English one should always be aware of these important points – Usage of sentences & Grammar.Commas, full stops & punctuation marks to join two sentences or to complete a single sentence also play a vital role in english writing.

The following tips are given to help in preparing for Descriptive Test, as all public sector bank exams have this paper.Although the marks are not calculated, it is necessary to pass in this test.article posted at www.bankexamsindia.com

* The capital letters are only used while the start of every new sentence and it is also used in the first letter of the name of a person. For example the name smith should be written as “Smith” and not “smith”. Make sure to start every new sentence with a capital letter, since it enhances the look of the passage.

* The other important thing that one should keep in mind is Grammatical Errors. If you want to write proper english, ensure that there are no grammatical errors. An essay or any article that has been written with no grammatical mistakes stands for its class and quality. 10/12th std, grammar books would be good to know the basics.

* The usage of Commas, Conjunctions & Punctuation Marks while joining two sentences should always be right as they can change the meaning of the sentence, if wrongly applied. The common words used as conjunctions are - ‘and’but’ ‘or’.

For example: “Mark is good at studies and also at athletics” Here the word ‘and’ is used as conjunction.

Cultivate Reading Habit : The only method to improve written english skills is by reading. Read a lot of books – it may be stories, newspapers, english magazines etc. but choose books that have simple sentences. So you can understand them better.
