IIM CAT 2009 to be CBT

Friday, July 17, 2009

The entry to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) was through a Common Admission Test (CAT) & these exams were conducted in the paper-pencil format. Now,the IIM`s at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kozhikode, Lucknow, and Shillong are introducing the Computer Based Test (CBT) from the year 2009 onwards.

CAT exams are considered to be one of the most toughest entrance test to secure a place in the reputed business & management schools. Now with the rollout of CBT,the management hopes CAT to be more candidate-friendly while allowing flexibility in selection of test date, registration process, better physical environment and test experience, while biometric identification of candidates and video monitoring will help in the streamlining the security process. They are also positive on improving the communication between candidates and IIMs in terms of programme information, receipt of admit cards & score reports. It was also said the IIMs have partnered with Prometric ETS for delivering the computer-assisted CAT.

The test is scheduled to be conducted for about 10 days, some time at the end of this calendar year. The detailed information on applying & writing the CAT 2009 CBT will be available along with the advertisement for CAT to be released later this summer.

With the number of candidates appearing for CAT increasing every season, this year will see even more students aspiring to get into the IIM`s to increase their value in the current job scenario. In order to combat large numbers & to reduce costs,IIM`s have chosen the Computer based test.
